الأسم المفرد الذى يساوى الأسماء
غير المعدودة
كلمة مثل bread
خبز هى كلمة لا تعد، ولكن أذا أردنا شئ واحد منها فإننا نستخدم كلمة مختلفة:
I'd like some bread, please.
I'd like a loaf of bread, please.
فى بعض الأحيان نحتاج لتحديد ما نحتاجه بالضبط "بالنسبة للأسماء غير
المعدودة" مثل clothing حيث أننا نحتاج تحديد نوع الملابس التى نحتاجها :
a coat, a shirt, etc
وعلى هذا النسق لا يمكن أن نقول a luggage امتعة أو an
accommodation إقامة، بل يجب أن نحدد نوع الأمتعة ونوع المكان
الذى نود الإقامة فيه فنقول : a suitcase, a room

Nouns not normally countable in English: 'information'
أسماء ليست معدودة فى اللغة
الإنجليزية "معلومات"
بعض الأسماء مثل معلومات "information" ليست معدودة
فى اللغة الإنجليزية ولكنها تعد فى اللغات الأخرى وهذا يعنى أننا لا نستطيع :
أن نستخدم قبلها a, an
فنقول : I'd like some information ولا نقول I'd
like an information
أن نجمعها فلا نقول informations
أمثلة أخرى لكلمات مثل information
advice, clothing, flu, furniture, hair, homework,
housework, jewellery, lightning, luggage, meat, money, news, permission,
progress, rubbish, scenery, shopping, soap, spaghetti, thunder, toast, traffic,
weather.
كلمة news
جمع فى شكلها ولكنها تعامل معاملة المفرد فنقول the news is
bad
ولا نقول the news are bad
كلمة شعر فى اللغة الإنجليزية hair كلمة مفردة تعامل معاملة المفرد فنقول my
hair is long
وتجمع فقط عند الإشارة إلى خصلات الشعر المفردة فنقول : there are
three hair on my nose
Partitives: 'a piece of', etc
الجزئيات "قطعة من" الخ
نستخدم الجزئيات partitives للإشارة إلى :
شئ واحد : a loaf of bread
جزء من كل : a slice of bread
مجموعة من الأشياء : a packet of biscuits
نستخدم a piece of بكثرة فى المحادثات اليومية ومعناها قطعة من a bit

هناك بعض الكلمات التى تشير إلى أجزاء من الأشياء تأتى مع كلمات ولا تأتى
مع أخرى فنقول :

ولكن لا نقول : a
